Palestinian Territories’ Gaza City: Five people were murdered by Israeli shelling on a school that was converted into a shelter on Friday, according to Gaza’s civil defense service. The military claimed to have fired at “suspicious individuals. Five martyrs have been recovered as a result of the Israeli shelling of the shelter at the Gaza Martyrs School,” in the Tuffah area east of Gaza City, the organization’s spokesperson, Mahmud Bassal, told AFP.
The Israeli military responded to an inquiry from AFP regarding the incident by stating that “a number of suspicious individuals were identified in command structures west of the Yellow line during operational activity in the area of the Yellow line in the northern Gaza Strip.
Israeli soldiers have retreated to positions east of the so-called Yellow Line as part of the US-brokered ceasefire between Israel and Hamas in Gaza.
The military stated that it was “aware of the claim regarding casualties in the area, and the details are under review” and that “the troops fired at the suspicious individuals shortly after identification to eliminate the threat.”
It stated, “The (Israeli military) regrets any harm to uninvolved individuals and operates to mitigate harm to the extent possible. The truce, which went into force in October, is still precarious since both parties claim violations, and mediators worry that both Israel and Hamas are stalling.
