The Saudi Public Health Authority announced on Saturday that, in spite of the worldwide outbreak, no cases of mpox Clade 1b have been found in Saudi Arabia.
The authority emphasized that by taking the required steps to monitor and stop the virus’s spread, the Kingdom was ready to handle any health risks and ensured the security and well-being of both citizens and residents.
It exhorted people not to be duped by hearsay or dubious stories and instead to trust information obtained from official sources.
Additionally, the public was cautioned against visiting nations where mpox has been identified.
The mpox outbreak in areas of Africa, particularly the more lethal and contagious Clade 1b, was earlier proclaimed by the World Health Organization to be a public health emergency of global concern.
Since the year’s commencement, 18,737 probable or confirmed cases of mpox have been reported in Africa. The hardest-hit nation, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, reported 1,005 cases (222 confirmed, 783 suspected) and 24 deaths in a week after the novel Clade 1b strain was first discovered there in September 2023.
This week, Sweden and Pakistan saw the first cases of mpox outside of Africa.
