RIYADH: SDM, a healthcare startup, is utilizing artificial intelligence to detect the stages of chronic diseases like diabetes through retinal imaging analysis of the eye. This could potentially save lives and make healthcare more efficient and accessible.
Arab News was informed by Dr Selwa Al-Hazzaa, the CEO and founder of SDM, that “when you hear the phrase ‘your eye is a window to your body,’ it’s actually the retina that is the window to any systemic diseases.” Since its founding in 2018, SDM has focused on bridging the gaps in the healthcare industry by creating digital technology solutions that enhance accessibility and well-being in outlying communities both inside and outside the Kingdom.
With the conviction that “everyone should have access to healthcare,” Al-Hazzaa and her co-founder and managing director, Naif Al-Obaidallah, have long been committed to lowering the cost of healthcare and making it accessible.
“Everyone should have a right to see a doctor or get treated,” Al-Obaidallah stated to Arab News.
Leading the way in AI medicine, SDM works with nonprofit organizations to conduct a thorough mass detection of chronic diseases using the retina by fusing AI technology with 40 years of experience from Al-Hazzaa.
