India’s prime minister Narendra Modi positioned his nation as a leader in the AI ecosystem on Thursday in New Delhi, saying that his country plans to develop AI at home and deploy it globally. Modi made these comments at a time when India is trying to promote itself as an affordable center for artificial intelligence research and development, capitalising on its expertise in constructing massive digital public infrastructure. India is one of the most rapidly expanding digital marketplaces.
Emmanuel Macron of France, Sundar Pichai of Google, and António Guterres of the United Nations also spoke at the conference. Guterres urged poorer nations to establish fundamental AI capacities, including data access, affordable computing power, and AI skills, and he proposed a $3 billion fund to do just that. According to Guterres, AI should “belong to everyone” and not be controlled by a small group of wealthy individuals or a small number of nations.
