IATA Supports the Rise of Saudi-Led Aviation as Part of the Push for Regional Integration

JEDDAH: According to a top International Air Transport Association official, Saudi Arabia’s quick growth has made it the region’s model for the Middle East’s aviation industry, which is striving for more integration and cooperative innovation.

IATA’s regional vice president for Africa and the Middle East, Kamil Al-Awadhi, told Arab News that the Gulf Cooperation Council is growing faster than any other area and that the Middle East may soon take the lead in the world’s aviation market.

He spoke at IATA Aviation Day MENA 2025, which was organised for the first time in Saudi Arabia from May 6–7 in Jeddah. The event brought together aviation sector leaders to discuss how regional cooperation and unified regulations might help aviation reach its full potential. Al-Awadhi attributed the region’s tenacity to coordinated aviation tactics and cohesive political leadership.

As if airports hadn’t been shuttered at all, Middle Eastern airlines resumed seamless operations in 2022 when the COVID-19 pandemic passed. On the other hand, it took many months for US and European airlines to resume regular operations,” he remarked. While acknowledging the region’s operational strength, the official drew attention to the inadequate stakeholder interaction. “The primary objective of this gathering is to unite the aviation industries in the area to talk about their difficulties and jointly strive for progress,” the IATA representative stated.
