In his Speech to the UK Parliament, Macron Calls for a New Age of Anglo-French Unity

WINDSOR: On the first day of his official visit to the UK, President Emmanuel Macron spoke to parliament Tuesday, arguing that France and Britain must cooperate to protect the post-World War II “international order.”

Macron said in a broad address that the two nations must reaffirm their century-old partnership to combat a variety of dangers, marking the first visit of this kind by an EU head of state since Brexit.

Speaking in English, he addressed British parliamentarians, saying, “The United Kingdom and France, as permanent members of the United Nations Security Council, deeply committed to multilateralism, must once again show the world that our alliance can make all the difference. To preserve the international system that we fought (for) during World War II, it is obvious that we must cooperate,” Macron continued.

Speaking on a range of difficult topics, like as international wars and illegal cross-Channel migration, he demanded an unconditional truce in Gaza. He emphasised that European nations will “never abandon Ukraine” in its confrontation with Russia.

As the three-day visit began, King Charles III and Queen Camilla had welcomed the French president and his wife Brigitte with much pomp and circumstance at Windsor just hours before. Prince William, the heir apparent, and his wife, Catherine, Princess of Wales, had met them at an air station northwest of London as they stepped from the presidential jet.
