Islamic Coalition Secretary-General Meets Maldivian Defense Chief in Male to Boost Cooperation

Male—Secretary-General of the Islamic Military Counter-Terrorism Coalition (IMCTC), Mohammed bin Saeed Al-Moghedi, held talks with Maldives’ Chief of Defense Force, Maj. Gen. Ibrahim Hilmy, on Monday to explore enhanced security cooperation between the coalition and the island nation. The discussions focused on addressing regional security challenges and improving the readiness of Maldivian defense personnel.

The meeting highlighted how Maldives can benefit from the coalition’s extensive programs spanning ideological, military, media, and financial support, all aimed at aiding the country’s fight against extremism and strengthening national security. Al-Moghedi also met with Wais Waheed, Director-General of the Maldives’ National Counter Terrorism Center, to further discuss collaborative efforts in counter-terrorism and security capacity-building.

This engagement demonstrates the coalition’s ongoing commitment to supporting member states in combating extremism and enhancing security frameworks across the region. In order to support the nation’s efforts to counter extremism and improve national security, the discussions focused on how the Maldives may gain from the coalition’s activities and programs in the intellectual, military, media, and financial domains.
