The persistent Israeli colonial policies, including the eviction of thousands of acres of Palestinian land, were denounced by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation on Monday.
The most recent of these acts, according to the Jeddah-based NGO, was closing archeological sites in the West Bank’s Sebastia settlement.
According to the OIC, Israel discriminates against hundreds of historical, scientific, religious, and archaeological monuments in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, including Jerusalem. These actions are part of this discriminatory strategy.
According to the organization, Israel is attempting to “erase and destroy the cultural and civilizational heritage of the Palestinian people,” and these efforts are blatantly against several international laws and treaties.
In order to protect the intangible and physical cultural assets in the occupied Palestinian area, the Organization for Islamic Cooperation (OIC) called on UNESCO to act immediately.
According to a watchdog group against settlements, Israel allowed the largest land grab in the occupied West Bank in more than thirty years at the beginning of July. This development could exacerbate already high tensions stemming from the ongoing conflict in Gaza.
