RIYADH: According to the Oman News Agency, Japan’s Ministry of the Environment and Oman’s Environment Authority have signed a bilateral agreement to strengthen collaboration on environmental matters and promote sustainable development.
In addition to laying the foundation for a cooperative framework founded on equity, fairness, and mutual benefit, the pact aims to improve the implementation of international environmental accords, such as the Paris Pact.
Oman has started a national strategy to achieve zero-carbon neutrality by 2050 to fight climate change. The plan calls for significant emission reductions in all sectors, improved energy efficiency, and a thorough shift of the energy industry towards renewable sources.

The agreement lists waste management, biodiversity protection using nature-based solutions, environmental monitoring, and climate change adaptation and mitigation as key areas of collaboration.
Additionally, the two countries decided to work together on cooperative projects, expert exchanges, training programs, and scientific research. The collaboration will encourage information exchange and discussion of present and future environmental issues.
