Major Action Against Corruption: Government Staff Arrested

Riyadh: The Oversight and Anti-Corruption Authority (Nazaha) has arrested several government employees across Saudi Arabia on corruption charges following extensive investigations. Legal proceedings have been initiated against all suspects.

According to a Nazaha spokesman, the arrests involved employees from multiple ministries and government agencies. Among them, a Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources employee was detained for accepting SR1.6 million in exchange for illegally granting a crusher license to a foreign investor’s company.

Another Saudi citizen was arrested after receiving SR85,000 to cancel a demolition order on agricultural land. Two municipal employees were also implicated in taking bribes to halt similar demolition orders.

In separate cases, a municipality employee accepted SR195,000 to award a tender illegally, while a water desalination plant director received SR35,000 for overlooking a contractor’s violations.

Arrests also included a regional secretariat employee involved in unlawful financial disbursement, Civil Defense and Defense Ministry officers for bribery, and several other officials accused of embezzlement, forgery, and unauthorized facilitation of services. Nazaha reaffirmed its commitment to combating corruption and safeguarding public funds across all sectors.
