RIYADH: The goal of the Makkah Route Initiative, which was introduced at Jinnah International Airport in Karachi, is to make pilgrims’ journeys easier, according to Lieutenant General Sulaiman bin Abdulaziz Al-Yahya, Director-General of Passports.
Speaking at the initiative’s Sunday airport launch, Al-Yahya claimed that introducing a mobile counter-verification device outfitted with artificial intelligence (AI) and cutting-edge digital solutions expedites processes for initiative recipients.
According to a report by Saudi Press Agency, 11 airports in seven countries are currently participating in the programme, which was introduced in 2019.
The initiative aims to offer Hajj travellers from participating nations top-notch services.
As part of the initiative, the pilgrims’ home country collects biometric data and completes the necessary procedures. The pilgrim’s nation also issues an electronic Hajj visa.
Before pilgrims enter the nation, the General Directorate of Passports of the Kingdom will ensure they meet all health requirements. Additionally, baggage will be categorised and coded based on travel and lodging plans.
Baggage will be coded and arranged under transportation and lodging arrangements, and the Kingdom’s General Directorate of Passports will make sure pilgrims’ health requirements are satisfied before they enter the nation.
The pilgrims’ luggage will be transported separately by partner agencies after they are driven by bus to their homes in Makkah and Madinah.
