Minnesota Sees Growing Unrest as Protesters and Federal Agents Clash

MINNEAPOLIS: Students miles away staged a walkout from a suburban school to protest the Trump administration’s audacious immigration sweeps on Tuesday, as federal authorities sprayed eye irritant and dropped tear gas on activists during another day of confrontations in Minneapolis.

The government’s immigration crackdown is currently on its way to a federal court, where two mayors and Minnesota are requesting that a judge immediately halt the operation. The request has not yet been scheduled for hearing.

A Minneapolis street where Renee Good was shot in the head by an immigration agent last week was covered in gas clouds. While agents in an unmarked Jeep sprayed an orange irritant and drove off, a man yelled for aid while scrubbing snow in his eyes.

In an effort to alert the community and remind the government that they are keeping an eye on things, people frequently boo, taunt, and blow orange whistles when they see highly armed agents walking the streets or driving by in unmarked cars. Brita Anderson, a local resident who traveled to support friends, said she was “incensed” to see agents wearing gas masks and combat gear and questioned why they were there.
