Syrian Government Announces New Ceasefire to Ease Tensions in Aleppo

DAMASCUS: Following days of fatal fighting with Kurdish fighters, Syria’s defense ministry declared a truce in a number of Aleppo areas on Friday. The Ministry of Defense announces… a ceasefire in the vicinity of the Sheikh Maqsoud, Alashrafieh, and Bani Zeid neighborhoods of Aleppo, effective from 3:00 am, to prevent any slide toward a new military escalation within residential neighborhoods,” the ministry said in a statement.

At least 21 people have been killed in several days of combat between Syrian government forces and the Kurdish-led SDF army in Aleppo.
