Peace-Minded Arab FMs at the UN Security Council Meeting

NEW YORK CITY: Arab foreign ministers at the UN have demanded an immediate cessation of Israeli attacks on Lebanon and a cease-fire in Gaza, while representatives of other nations have expressed solidarity for the Palestinian cause. The plea was made on Thursday during a special Security Council meeting called by Algeria, when the Palestinian prime minister passionately denounced the “dehumanisation” of his people.

Before the meeting, an Arab delegation addressed the media, with the foreign ministers of Jordan (Ayman Safadi) and Saudi Arabia (Faisal bin Farhan) summarising their countries’ positions on Israel’s most recent escalation and potential solutions. “We tackle the Palestinian problem by means of the establishment of a Palestinian state, as stipulated by international law,” Prince Faisal declared.

“And that will open up the horizon for cooperation and integration as well as normalisation,” In order to “perform its duty” and “do what it has to do to protect regional, international peace,” Safadi urged the Security Council to act. It’s time to confront reality, he declared, adding that “war will engulf all of us unless Netanyahu is stopped and this (Israeli) government is stopped.” “The policies and actions of the Israeli government, as well as the international community’s inaction in stopping it and saying enough, are the real dangers in the region.”

Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa was among those who accompanied the two foreign ministers. During the Security Council meeting, Mustafa denounced the “insanity” of the council’s failure to halt Israel’s war in Gaza.
