The "The Road to Riyadh" Event in New York is Inaugurated by Saudi FM

NEW YORK Thursday at the UN headquarters in New York, the high-level event “The Road to Riyadh” was officially opened by Minister of Foreign Affairs Prince Faisal bin Farhan.

In light of the Saudi Green Initiative and the Middle East Green Initiative, Prince Faisal emphasised in his speech the Kingdom’s ongoing proactive efforts to battle desertification and address the problems posed by climate change. In order to solve these issues, he also underlined the significance of promoting environmental sustainability, increasing vegetation cover, and bolstering international action.

On the fringes of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly high-level week, Saudi Arabia, represented by the Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture, organised the event in collaboration with the UN. It took place as part of the 16th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification, which the Kingdom is hosting in 2024.

Attendees included Saudi Arabia’s ambassador to the United States, Princess Reema bint Bandar; Adel Al-Jubeir, a member of the cabinet and climate envoy; Dr. Abdulrahman Al-Rassi, the deputy minister for international multilateral affairs; and Abdulrahman Aldawood, director general of the foreign minister’s office.
