RIYADH: At the university’s Makkah headquarters, the General Authority for the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque, Umm Al-Qura University, and Wadi Makkah Co. recently wrapped up the pilgrim-mobility enhancement challenge.
Beginning on May 12, the one-week event aimed to improve pilgrim services through creative means, with a particular emphasis on helping individuals with disabilities complete Hajj rituals like Tawaf and Sa’i.
Four categories were included: manual wheelchairs, electric cars, golf carts, and trailers. Additionally, an open area was provided for imaginative mobility concepts.
During the closing ceremony, an exhibition showcasing contributions and creative ideas from organising bodies and participating teams was held. Ghazi bin Dhafer Al-Shahrani, CEO of the general authority, and Dr. Moaddi bin Mohammed Aal Madhhab, President of Umm Al-Qura University, attended.
The general authority’s advisor, Dr. Ammar Attar, emphasised the value of developing strong collaborations and cited Umm Al-Qura University as a leader in Hajj and Umrah sciences and technologies. He praised the collaborative effort to improve mobility for Tawaf and Sa’i as a noteworthy result of this partnership.
The CEO of Wadi Makkah Co., Dr. Ali Al-Shaeri, commended the challenge’s accomplishments and effects, emphasising its part in the university’s larger innovation programme to improve the pilgrim experience through efficient collaboration with the general authority.
