Riyadh Hosts Key Conference on AI-Driven Cancer Care Solutions

RIYADH: The fourth Middle East Society of Therapeutic Radiation Oncology (MESTRO) conference will be held at Alfaisal University in Riyadh from Nov. 21 to 22, bringing together leading experts, researchers, and representatives from international pharmaceutical and medical technology companies.

This year’s conference will focus on the role of artificial intelligence and advanced technologies in modern cancer treatment. The scientific sessions will open with discussions on the latest innovations in radiation therapy and oncology across major Gulf centers, featuring speakers from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain, Oman, Kuwait, and the UAE. Panel discussions will further explore developments in cancer treatment technologies in Egypt, Jordan, Morocco, Turkiye, and Iraq, the Saudi Press Agency reported.

A specialised Saudi team will highlight the Kingdom’s progress in adopting proton therapy, a cutting-edge approach that minimises radiation side effects, particularly in pediatric patients, while also addressing the challenges of implementing it locally.

Professor Fady Geara, chairman of the Department of Radiation Oncology at Cleveland Clinic, will present on carbon ion therapy and share insights into the progress of the planned Abu Dhabi treatment center. This innovative form of particle therapy enables high-precision targeting of cancer cells, including tumors resistant to conventional radiotherapy.
