KYIV: Days after Moscow vowed to cut “Ukraine off from the sea,” Russia assaulted two Ukrainian ports on Friday, damaging three Turkish-owned vessels, including a ship carrying food supplies, according to Ukrainian officials and one ship owner.
Vladimir Putin, the president of Russia, promised vengeance last week for Kyiv’s marine drone assaults on Moscow’s “shadow fleet” tankers, which Kyiv claims are Russia’s primary source of funding for the almost four-year-old conflict.
The Friday strike occurred just hours after Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan informed Putin that a limited truce for ports and energy facilities might be advantageous. Volodymyr Zelensky, the president of Ukraine, shared images showing firefighters battling a massive fire on a ship in the port of Chornomorsk in the Odesa area.
This demonstrates once more that Russians not only don’t take the current diplomatic chance seriously enough, but they also carry on the war specifically to ruin everyday life in Ukraine, he said. The Cenk T ship was attacked at approximately 1600 Ukraine time (1400 GMT), according to the ship’s owner, Cenk Shipping.
It further stated that there were no crew injuries and that the damage was minimal. Reuters confirmed the attack’s exact moment as seen in a video posted on X. The buildings and cranes in the video matched satellite photos of the Chornomorsk port, and the ship resembled Cenk T.
