Property Ownership Emerges as the Biggest Financial Goal for Urban Women

According to the DBS Bank India Women & Finance 2026 survey, purchasing a home or property has emerged as the top financial ambition for urban Indian women, indicating a strong preference for tangible assets and long-term security ahead of International Women’s Day. The study, performed in collaboration with research partner Deloitte, surveyed 1,342 women across India, including female entrepreneurs, high-net-worth (HNW) women, and rural women earners, to better understand how women manage their money, make financial decisions, and prepare for the future.

According to the survey, 73% of female entrepreneurs and 64% of high-net-worth women see buying a home or property as their primary life objective, indicating a significant preference for asset accumulation and financial security. In contrast, 73% of rural women earners said their main priority is their children’s education, indicating disparities in financial responsibilities and income levels among segments.

According to the report, women are increasingly in control of their finances. Among those polled, 69% of female entrepreneurs stated they make the majority of financial decisions, compared to 60% of rural women earners and 58% of high-net-worth women. The percentage of women who make their own financial decisions increases with age, demonstrating that confidence and experience build over time.
