Saudi Arabia Attends The Geneva Meeting of The CERF Advisory Committee

GENEVA — In Geneva, Switzerland, Saudi Arabia attended the United Nations Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF) advisory group conference. An extensive examination of the Fund’s 2024 outcomes kicked off the conference. Geographical allocations, target sectors, and compliance with humanitarian standards were all covered in detail. Also covered were developments in the proactive response and climate action portfolio.

Along with members of the Fund’s advisory team, senior leaders and officials from the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), representatives from UN agencies, and Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Tom Fletcher, the Saudi side’s participants included Dr. Aqeel Al-Ghamdi, General Supervisor of Planning and Development at the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSRelief).

The development of early warning systems and proactive measures are priorities that must be included in humanitarian funding mechanisms, particularly in areas exposed to recurring risks, Dr. Aqeel Al-Ghamdi said, underscoring the significance of investing in enhancing local communities’ ability to respond to humanitarian disasters. Additionally, he underlined the significance of bolstering the values of accountability and transparency, enhancing assessment instruments, and emphasising how financing affects recipients’ lives.

A thorough discussion of the necessity of adopting more straightforward and adaptable humanitarian response models, as well as minimising fragmentation and enhancing coordination between donors and implementing agencies, was held during the session devoted to the “Resetting Humanitarian Action” initiative.
