Saudi Arabia Reaffirms its Steadfast Dedication to Addressing International Humanitarian Concerns

Saudi Arabia reaffirmed its ongoing support for international humanitarian causes and its efforts to lessen the suffering of those impacted by natural catastrophes and war.

Speaking to the UN Economic and Social Council in Geneva, Ambassador Abdulmohsen bin Khothaila, Saudi Arabia’s Permanent Representative to the UN and international organisations in Geneva, stated that despite the world economy’s difficulties, Saudi Arabia remains one of the biggest donors in the development and humanitarian sectors. The envoy emphasised that tackling the underlying causes of crises is essential to reducing human suffering and said that the growth in armed conflicts and the erosion of respect for international humanitarian law have worsened humanitarian crises.

He noted that Saudi Arabia’s belief in the value of dialogue in achieving enduring peace is the reason for its involvement in the international initiative by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to renew its commitment to international humanitarian law and its hosting of multiple peace talks between conflicting parties.

In reference to the Palestinian issue, Bin Khothaila clarified that Saudi Arabia vehemently denounced the grave abuses and war crimes perpetrated on the Palestinian people by the Israeli occupation forces. He reiterated Saudi Arabia’s demand for a quick and long-lasting truce, stressing that blocking humanitarian aid from reaching the Gaza Strip and using it as a weapon of war is a blatant breach of international law.
