Pakistan’s ambassador to Saudi Arabia has praised the close and long-standing security partnership between the two countries, especially after the signing of a significant new defense agreement in Riyadh during Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s visit last month.
Ambassador Ahmad Farooq described the relationship between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia as a “brotherly bond” that’s built on shared faith, a similar culture, and strong connections between their people. He said the new Strategic Mutual Defense Agreement is a natural next step in this relationship, and shows both countries are serious about supporting each other’s security and working for peace in the region.
According to Farooq, the agreement will help both countries deter any threats more effectively, since each nation has promised to defend the other, treating an attack on one as an attack on both. He explained that this pact is not just about new commitments, but also formalizes decades of friendly cooperation based on Islamic solidarity and common interests. To celebrate the signing, Riyadh’s Kingdom Tower was illuminated with the flags of both Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, symbolizing the unity and friendship between the two nations.
