LONDON: The foreign minister of Saudi Arabia stated that the moment has come to start an irreversible path towards settling the Israeli-Palestinian problem and creating two sovereign states where the two peoples may coexist peacefully.
Prince Faisal bin Farhan stated in an opinion piece that appeared in the Financial Times on Wednesday that a two-state solution is the only practical means of guaranteeing the long-term security of Israel, Palestine, and the surrounding area.
He said, “The Kingdom will not establish diplomatic relations with Israel until an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital is established. The Kingdom will work tirelessly to help achieve this goal.” In a recent speech to the Shoura Council, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman reiterated Saudi Arabia’s position, which was reinforced by his remarks.
According to Prince Faisal, the Kingdom would benefit from an independent Palestinian state in the form of prosperity, stability, and integration in the area. His opinion piece comes after Iran launched a missile attack on Israel on Tuesday, and after Israel and Hezbollah’s confrontation in Lebanon escalated dramatically in recent weeks.
