RIYADH: British Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Neil Crompton spoke at a cultural event celebrating the launch of “Anecdotes of an Arab Anglophile” in Riyadh on Monday, highlighting the expansion of Saudi-UK ties from traditional defence partnerships to a wide range of sectors, including tourism, people-to-people relations, and sport. Our relationship has evolved from a fairly traditional defence, security, and contracting relationship to take-off in the modern era since Vision 2030,” Crompton stated.
In addition to noting British rowers and cricket players like Kevin Pietersen visiting the Kingdom and several Saudis taking vacations in London, the ambassador highlighted the expansion of people-to-people ties between the two nations.
Crompton remarked, “I think the affection between the two countries is amazing.” In addition to the 100,000 Saudis who previously possessed a 10-year visa or another passport, almost 500,000 Saudis have used the visa system to travel to London since we implemented the visa waiver system in June 2022.
Saudi author and Editor-in-Chief of Arab News Faisal J. Abbas launched “Anecdotes of an Arab Anglophile” in Saudi Arabia, which was recognised at the cultural event organised by the UK Embassy.
