Dr. Esam Al-Wagait, director of the Saudi National Information Center, has announced that the Tawakkalna app will soon introduce a new artificial intelligence–powered service called “Shamel.” Speaking at the Digital Government Forum in Riyadh on Wednesday, Al-Wagait explained that the new feature will allow users to interact with their personal data through voice chat in colloquial Arabic, making it easier to access information about traffic violations, travel details, and official documents.
He noted that Shamel will not be limited to users alone. The platform will also offer innovative tools for developers helping them design and integrate services into the app more efficiently. Al-Wagait highlighted the Tawakkalna app as a national success story that originated during the COVID-19 pandemic. Initially launched to issue permits and display health status the app has since evolved into a comprehensive digital platform providing thousands of government services to citizens residents and visitors.
With directives to expand its role, Tawakkalna is being transformed into a unified national application,” he said, adding that the upgraded version, Tawakkalna 2.0, currently includes more than 1,100 digital services from multiple government agencies.
