The Arab Environment Capital is Riyadh

In honour of the Saudi capital’s trailblazing work in sustainability and environmental preservation, Riyadh has been recognised as the “Arab Environment Capital” for the past two years.

The Council of Arab Environment Ministers’ 35th session made the resolution. Saudi Arabia convened the meeting, which ended Thursday in Jeddah.

Riyadh will host a number of events and projects to increase environmental awareness, encourage sustainability, and plan campaigns and projects that will enhance the environment and quality of life as it begins its two-year term as the Arab Environment Capital. In keeping with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 objectives, these initiatives are anticipated to enhance Riyadh’s reputation as a global centre for sustainable development and environmental action.

The Kingdom’s leadership in implementing strategic and sustainable environmental projects was further highlighted during the session when the Saudi Green Initiative was given the Distinguished Environmental Project Award at the government sector level.

The 16th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (COP16) is one of several significant environmental events that Riyadh will hold in 2024. The 2018–2030 Strategic Framework, expanding the convention’s work, and addressing concerns like drought and dust storms are some of the important topics that will be covered at this conference.
