LONDON: A UK parliamentary committee accused Iran on Thursday of being responsible for at least 15 attempts to murder or abduct British citizens since 2022, claiming that Iran’s danger has “significantly increased.
According to the parliament’s intelligence and security committee, London’s reaction has been overly preoccupied with “crisis management,” with worries over Iran’s nuclear program taking up too much of their time. A “categorical rejection of the unfounded, politically motivated, and hostile allegations” was promptly released by Tehran.
Iran’s embassy in London described the committee’s allegations as “baseless, irresponsible, and reflective of a broader pattern of distortion intended to malign Iran’s legitimate regional and national interests.”
The revelation follows mounting concern in the UK about claims that Iran is physically attacking journalists, media outlets, and dissidents in the country. To strengthen Britain’s national security against shady foreign influences, Iran was the first nation to be added to the Foreign Influence Registration Scheme’s upgraded tier in March. Anyone employed by Iran, its intelligence agencies, or the Revolutionary Guard within the nation must register on a new list or risk being imprisoned.
