JERUSALEM: US President Donald Trump warned Thursday that if Iran is linked to the copilot who attempted to crash an Israel-bound aeroplane, the Islamic Republic will be hit “very hard” for endangering the lives of more than 180 people on the plane.
Trump delivered the warning as authorities attempted to uncover why the copilot stabbed the flight’s captain, leading the FlyDubai plane to descend before others on board intervened and landed the aircraft in Saudi Arabia.
Reporters at the White House asked the president if he had been briefed on any links between the pilot behind the attack and Tehran. He responded, “We’re working on it right now.” I would say the answer, based on what I’m hearing, is yes, but we’re working on it right now,” Trump replied. He did not explain why he believes Iran may be involved.
When asked if the US would strike against Tehran if it was behind the attack, Trump responded, “Oh, they’ll be hit, very hard, don’t worry.” You can just ask them,” he added. “They understand what occurred. They’ll be smacked hard.” His comments came as diplomatic attempts to end the war seemed deadlocked.
