Twenty Years after Converting to Islam, a Muslim from Uruguay does his Hajj in Makkah

MAKKAH: The 70-year-old Uruguayan pilgrim Luis Abi Rachid, who is a guest of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Program for Hajj and Umrah, told the tale of his first flight, which he took this year to conduct the Hajj in Saudi Arabia.

Following his acceptance into the program, which was overseen and carried out by the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Rachid characterised the experience as peaceful and spiritually fulfilling, fulfilling a lifetime ambition of his to uphold the fifth pillar of Islam.

I had indescribable feelings when I arrived in the holy land,” he remarked. “I had only ever seen the Holy Kaaba on television, but I was on my way to conduct Umrah and visit it for the first time.

I was overflowing with happiness when I got chosen for the program. All glory is due to Allah Ta’ala, followed by the Saudi government, for making my goal and the dreams of other Muslims worldwide a reality. Rachid recalled how a Muslim acquaintance exposed him to Islam over three months 20 years ago, marking the beginning of his path to the faith.

He gradually came to believe that Islam is the authentic religion after learning about the Holy Qur’an and the practice of prayer during that period. His faith and knowledge have grown since he converted to Islam, and he has long yearned to see the Holy Kaaba and do the Hajj.
