SPLIT: On Thursday, during an informal meeting of the EU MED9 group in Croatia, the European Commissioner for the Mediterranean, Dubravka Šuica, expressed her disapproval of Israeli bombings on Lebanon and called for an immediate ceasefire. During meetings with members of the European Union (EU) from the Mediterranean region, remarks were made regarding the escalating tensions in the Middle East and the need to prevent further regional escalation.
To provide a platform for coordination on foreign policy and regional security, the MED9 format brings together nine European Union member states located in the Mediterranean. During the discussion, officials presented their perspectives on continuing conflicts and emphasized the significance of de-escalation and humanitarian protection in areas that are currently experiencing conflict.
Another participant at the gathering of foreign ministers and state secretaries from nine Mediterranean countries, Slovenia’s Foreign Minister Tanja Fajon, urged all parties involved to end the violence in the Middle East and highlighted the importance of diplomatic restraint amid the region’s growing instability.
