With GACA Approval, Red Sea Global Opens the Second Water Aerodrome in Saudi Arabia

RIYADH: A second water aerodrome will open in the Red Sea tourism development following the acquisition of an operating licence. The facility will open to visitors in September, and passengers will now be able to arrive by seaplane on Sheybarah Island, the location of the Shebara resort.

Red Sea Global’s CEO, John Pagano, received the water aerodrome licence from General Authority for Civil Aviation President Abdulaziz bin Abdullah Al-Duailej. He stated that the permit’s issuance is a component of GACA’s transformation program, which aims to increase investment and competition in support of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 agenda.

One of Saudi Arabia’s megaprojects, RSG is expected to have 50 hotels spread over 28,000 square kilometres by 2030 and can accommodate 300,000 visitors annually. One of the last steps towards revealing Shebara to the world is obtaining this licence. Seaplanes will soon bring visitors to this legendary resort, where they can expect to have an absolutely unmatched escape,” said Pagano.

We are cementedly establishing ourselves as leaders in tourism and aviation as the proprietors of the Kingdom’s first seaplane airline and its only two water aerodromes to date,” he continued.

RSG obtained the first licence to operate a water airport in Saudi Arabia at Ummahat Island in 2023. Since their opening on the island earlier in 2024, it has been transporting guests to and from the St. Regis Red Sea Resort and Nujuma, a Ritz Carlton Reserve.
