Zelenskyy Confirms Territorial Issues Will Be Addressed in Upcoming Trilateral Summit

A potential trilateral conference between the United States and Russia, which U.S. President Donald Trump is attempting to arrange, will include “territorial issues,” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced Monday. In high-stakes sessions in Washington, Zelenskyy said the group talked about “very sensitive points,” such as humanitarian concerns and security guarantees, alongside Trump and other EU officials.

It is crucial that during the trilateral meeting, we address all sensitive topics, including territorial issues, at the level of leaders, Zelenskyy stated. Trump promised to push for such a format, Zelenskyy said. President Trump has stated that Ukraine would be pleased if you participated in the meeting, regardless of whether he attends or not.

Zelenskyy also thanked the United States for its humanitarian and security assistance. “That the United States sends such a strong signal and is prepared for security guarantees is very important,” he stated.

His comments followed Trump’s historic summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska, which was their first in-person encounter since the start of the war in Ukraine in February 2022. The gathering has paved the way for what may be the most significant diplomatic attempt to put an end to the three-and-a-half-year conflict to date.

Zelenskyy has so far rejected any territory exchanges, stating that negotiations must include unwavering guarantees for Ukraine’s sovereignty, defense, and humanitarian needs, even though Trump has indicated an interest in a peace agreement incorporating such concessions.
