A Saudi Initiative Helps Farmers Boost The Rose Industry

RIYADH: At the Rose and Aromatic Plants Global Forum in Taif, Saudi Reef, the Sustainable Agricultural Rural Development Program, is exhibiting its accomplishments in growing the rose and aromatic plant industry. According to a Tuesday Saudi Press Agency story, the program emphasizes its efforts to expand this crucial sector in accordance with the Kingdom’s Vision 2030, with a focus on food security, rural development, and increased agricultural efficiency.

Saudi Reef’s assistant secretary-general for media and information, Majed Al-Buraikan, stressed that the program’s involvement promotes national initiatives in the sector and empowers producers of fragrant plants and roses. He pointed out that Saudi Reef is a key player in promoting sustainable agricultural change, especially in areas like Taif, Jazan, and Asir, which are well-known for producing fragrant plants and roses.

More than 400 farmers are supported by the initiative, which has increased rose output by 34% in the last four years to 960 million roses a year, according to Al-Buraikan. According to the SPA, the objective is to produce 2 billion roses a year by 2026, solidifying Saudi Arabia’s standing as the world’s top producer of roses. In the meanwhile, 15,000 tissue-cultured seedlings were distributed at the event by the National Research and Development Center for Sustainable Agriculture as part of an endeavor to increase productivity and advance sustainability.
