RIYADH: The Saudi Red Crescent Authority has launched its air ambulance service for the 2025 Hajj season. 11 aircraft will fly from 13 strategically placed helipads to evacuate essential medical patients from the Grand Mosque and holy sites. The Saudi Press Agency claimed on Monday that this will provide a speedy emergency response throughout pilgrimage regions.
Air ambulances play an essential role in supporting the seasonal emergency network by providing rapid transportation for patients and injured individuals, facilitating medical evacuations between healthcare facilities, and deploying specialised medical teams to high-density areas or critical incidents.
Simultaneously, SRCA has increased its operational capacity, with over 120 ambulances running continuously and backed by over 100 cars throughout Makkah. Strategic distribution comprises 45 units in the northeast and west, 15 in the south, and 20 in the centre.
More than 160 emergency medical technicians, 12 motorised emergency vehicles, and three golf carts converted into portable ambulances for restricted-access zones are among the advanced mobility resources. These assets enable complete preparation for future catastrophes.
More than 30 emergency units have been strategically deployed at the Grand Mosque. These comprise seven teams in the Masa’a and Saudi Corridor, eight in the Masa’a and eastern courtyards, ten in the western and southern courtyards, and two in the third Saudi expansion zone.
