Activists Claim Gaza Aid Convoy Targeted in Drone Strike

Activists Claim Gaza Aid Convoy Targeted in Drone Strike

A Gaza-bound flotilla carrying humanitarian aid and international activists reported being attacked by drones while sailing near Greece late Tuesday. The organizers of the Global Sumud Flotilla said several boats experienced explosions, communication jamming, and objects being dropped from above. In a statement, they described the incidents as “psychological operations” but insisted they would not abandon their mission.

German human rights activist Yasemin Acar, on board one of the vessels, said five boats had been struck. In a video message, she emphasized that the flotilla was carrying only humanitarian aid and posed no threat, accusing Israel of causing mass civilian suffering in Gaza. Acar also claimed activists spotted between 15 and 16 drones and noted that their radios were blocked with loud music.

Videos shared on the flotilla’s official social media accounts showed explosions, including one captured from the Spectre boat at 01:43 GMT+3. Brazilian activist Thiago Avila also reported drones targeting four vessels before another blast echoed in the background.

The flotilla, which set sail from Barcelona earlier this month, includes 51 vessels and high-profile activists like Greta Thunberg. Its goal is to break Israel’s blockade of Gaza, though Israel has vowed to prevent it from entering the territory.
