RIYADH: As Lenovo gets ready to start commercial production at its new Riyadh facility in late 2026, Saudi Arabia is looking to solidify its position as a regional center for technology manufacturing. The factory, Lenovo’s biggest outside China, will be the first in the world to produce servers, laptops, desktop computers, and Motorola handsets in one location. It will cater to markets in Africa, Turkey, and the Middle East.
At the LEAP 2026 technology conference in Riyadh, Lenovo showcased its first laptop made in Saudi Arabia, signalling a change in its collaboration with Alat, a Public Investment Fund-owned business, from investment and capacity-building to domestic technological device production.
Lenovo’s vice president and general manager for Saudi Arabia, Salman Faqeeh, told Asharq Al-Awsat that the laptop was a significant turning point for the business. According to him, large-scale production is anticipated to start in late 2026.
According to Faqeeh, “the Riyadh facility has been designed to produce Lenovo’s product portfolio over time, including PCs, desktop computers, servers, and Motorola smartphones.” In addition to being Lenovo’s largest factory outside of China, our Riyadh site is the first in the world to produce all four product categories.
