Washington: According to a US official on Monday, the US believes that disarmament by Hamas fighters in Gaza entails some kind of amnesty for the Palestinian organization. Speaking to reporters under the condition of anonymity, the official commemorated the return of the remains of the final Israeli hostage held by Hamas. As part of a strategy to rehabilitate Gaza, Israel and the United States are putting pressure on Hamas to disarm. According to the official, US authorities are certain that Hamas would disarm.
Many of their folks are discussing disarming with us. We believe they will. They’ve broken the agreement if they don’t disarm. The official stated, “We believe that disarmament comes with some kind of amnesty, and to be honest, we think we have a very, very good program to disarm.” When asked if Israel would grant Hamas members amnesty if they surrendered their weapons, the Israeli embassy in Washington did not immediately reply.
According to President Donald Trump’s 20-point Gaza plan, Hamas members who agree to peaceful coexistence and decommission their weapons will be granted amnesty after all hostages are freed. According to the plan, Hamas members who want to leave Gaza will be given safe passage to receiving nations.
