RIYADH: Under the auspices of Saudi Minister of Environment, Water, and Agriculture Abdulrahman bin Abdulmohsen Al-Fadhli, who also serves as the program’s board chair, the National Livestock and Fisheries Development Program signed a memorandum of understanding with the French company Ceva in front of industry leaders.
The agreement intends to increase the industrial and commercial production of veterinary vaccines throughout the Kingdom, transfer technology and technical experience, and localise vaccine manufacture.
The Memorandum of Understanding states that the two sides will endeavour to increase the efficiency of mass production scale-up, create a clear route for sustainable commercial operations that satisfy the demands of the regional and national markets, and fortify the food security and biosecurity systems.
Along with cooperative research and development of a vaccine against Middle East respiratory syndrome for camels, the MoU also covers the advancement and modernisation of messenger RNA vaccine technology. This entails creating, testing, and refining vaccinations especially suited to fight the infection.
Along with supporting national efforts to manage the illness through vaccine provision, capacity building, and the execution of integrated prevention strategies, the agreement also addresses the development of a rabies vaccine and related solutions.
