How Amazon’s $12 Billion Data Center Investment Signals the Future of AI Infrastructure

RIYADH: The US tech behemoth Amazon is to spend $12 billion to construct several campuses of data centers in northwest Louisiana, extending the infrastructure to accommodate cloud computing and artificial intelligence.

According to a corporate release, the construction, which spans the Caddo and Bossier Parishes, will serve Amazon Web Services’ cloud computing operations and the business’s rising demand for AI technology.

According to JLL’s Data Center Outlook report, the global data center industry is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 14% through 2030. This means that between 2026 and 2030, there will be nearly 100 gigawatts of new capacity added globally, effectively doubling the current global capacity.

The project would construct next-generation data center campuses to serve cloud computing and artificial intelligence while generating possibilities for local communities, according to David Zapolsky, Amazon’s chief global affairs and legal officer.

To better serve our consumers, we’re investing heavily in local infrastructure and generating hundreds of well-paying jobs. We’re honored to strengthen our ties to Louisiana and appreciative of our solid collaborations with regional leaders,” he continued.
