SYDNEY/LONDON: According to a spokeswoman, Sultan Haitham bin Tariq of Oman and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer discussed the unsuccessful peace negotiations between the US and Iran on Sunday and advised against further escalation.
According to a readout of the call from London, “they discussed the peace talks held in Pakistan over the weekend and urged both sides to find a way through.” “The leaders agreed that maintaining the ceasefire and preventing any further escalation was crucial.”
International partners are still working to restore secure passage through the Strait of Hormuz, according to Starmer, who recently returned from discussions with allies in the Middle East. Additionally, he promised that the UK will defend Oman.
A spokeswoman for the European Union stated that diplomacy is “essential” to ending the conflict in the Middle East. EU foreign affairs spokesperson Anouar El Anouni noted the failure of US-Iranian negotiations hosted by Pakistan, saying “we salute Pakistan for its mediation efforts” and adding that Brussels will support additional attempts to seek a settlement in conjunction with its partners.
