Gold Prices Fall as Investors Assess Middle East Tensions and Inflation

As worries over growing inflation and uncertainty surrounding the Middle East conflict persisted, gold saw a slight decline on Monday. Additionally, investors were keeping an eye on a number of job data this week to determine the direction of the U.S. Federal Reserve’s policies.

Spot gold declined 0.1% to $4,037.01 per ounce by 12:37 p.m. EDT (1637 GMT), and US gold futures for August delivery slid 0.3% to $4,035.80. For almost a month, gold has been trapped in a trading range that is roughly between $4,000 and $4,200. The market may be anticipating a rebound in inflation, particularly in July when new data will probably reverse much of June’s decrease, which would provide support, according to Marex analyst Edward Meir.

Delaying higher borrowing costs might keep inflation beyond the Fed’s 2% objective, according to three Fed members who opposed a rate hike at last week’s policy meeting on Friday. John Williams, president of the New York Fed, stated that if inflation pressures did not decrease, the central bank was prepared to increase rates.
