BEIRUT: In his most recent international visit since assuming office in January, the president of the Syrian Arab Republic went to Bahrain on Saturday to speak with King Hamad bin Isa Al-Khalifa about regional issues and relations between the two countries.
Under Al-Sharaa’s leadership, relations with Arab and Western nations have improved. According to Syria’s official news agency, SANA, President Ahmad Al-Sharaa was leading a high-level delegation to Bahrain. According to Bahrain’s news agency, the two leaders talked about regional issues, methods to support Syria’s security and stability, and how to improve their relations with one another.
Al-Sharaa’s trip to Bahrain coincides with US President Donald Trump’s planned trip to the area to meet with Gulf Arab leaders. Al-Sharaa has travelled to Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, and Turkey since assuming office.
He said that France is holding indirect negotiations with Israel during his first European visit earlier this week, where he visited French President Emmanuel Macron in Paris. Following the overthrow of Assad, Syria and its neighbours have been demanding the revocation of Western sanctions placed on Assad in the early months of the crisis that began in March 2011.
