According to Insiders, the US May Soon Deport Migrants to Libya Aboard a Military Aeroplane

Washington: According to three US sources on Tuesday, the administration of US President Donald Trump may deport migrants to Libya for the first time this week as part of his immigration crackdown, even though Washington has previously denounced Libya’s brutal treatment of captives. Although they emphasised that plans may change, two of the individuals stated that the US military could transport the migrants to the North African nation as early as Wednesday.

The White House received enquiries from the Pentagon. Response requests were not immediately answered by the Department of Homeland Security or the White House. “We do not discuss the details of our diplomatic communications with other governments,” a State Department official stated.

Reuters was not able to determine the number of migrants who would be transferred to Libya and the nationalities of those the government is considering deporting. On Wednesday, the Government of National Unity in Libya declared that it opposes the deportation of migrants to Libyan territory without the country’s knowledge or approval. It also claimed there was no cooperation with the US on migrant reception.
