According to the Economy Minister, Saudi Arabia is Considering Joining BRICS

DUBAI: At the World Governments Summit on Wednesday, Saudi Arabia’s minister of economics and planning, Faisal Alibrahim, stated that the Kingdom is assessing the advantages of joining the BRICS economic bloc. Speaking during a session called “The Emergence of Multiple Economic Blocs,” Alibrahim emphasised Saudi Arabia’s dedication to promoting international discussion while negotiating a more divided economic environment.

Initially named after its founding founders—Brazil, Russia, India, and China—the BRICS bloc was established in 2009, and South Africa joined a year later. Iran, Egypt, Ethiopia, the United Arab Emirates, and Indonesia are among its ten current full members. According to Alibrahim, economic blocs like BRICS are instruments to advance stability and integration rather than being an objective in and of themselves. “Talking is vital. Both the Kingdom and the modern world depend on it.

According to him, Saudi Arabia saw these venues as chances to establish, defend, and broaden their common ground. Saudi Arabia has shown greater receptivity to international discussion since the introduction of Vision 2030, with the goal of improving market integration and regulatory coherence. The minister underlined that although cultural links and geographic proximity were important, open and honest dialogue on trade laws and regulations was also necessary for genuine economic cooperation.
