Seven Killed After Drone Strike Hits Hospital in Sudan, Say Medical Officials

SUDAN PORT: “Seven civilians dead and 12 injured” were the results of a drone hit on an army hospital on Sunday in the besieged southern Sudanese city of Dilling, a health worker at the institution said AFP. On condition of anonymity, the medic stated that patients and their companions were among the casualties, adding that the army hospital “serves the residents of the city and its surroundings, in addition to military personnel.

The Sudanese army controls Dilling in the volatile state of South Kordofan, but competing paramilitary groups have besieged town. The army has been at war with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) since April 2023. The RSF and its allies, the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N) group under Abdelaziz Al-Hilu, occupy large portions of the broader Kordofan region.

The attack on Sunday occurs one day after six Bangladeshi soldiers were murdered in a drone strike on a UN peacekeeping camp in Kadugli, the similarly besieged state capital of South Kordofan, which is located around 120 kilometers (75 miles) south of Dilling. The UN claims that inhabitants in Dilling are experiencing famine, but no formal declaration has been made due to a lack of data.
