Prince Badr bin Abdullah, the Minister of Culture, visited many historical and archeological sites in the Eastern Province’s Al-Ahsa governorate on Monday.
He examined several key cultural initiatives carried out by Al-Ahsa’s cultural authority, as well as the advancements made in their execution. This is a part of the minister’s journey to follow up on cultural projects and initiatives across the Kingdom’s governorates and regions.
With a history spanning thousands of years, the Al-Ahsa Governorate is one of the Kingdom’s most densely populated governorates.
The governorate is home to several archaeological monuments as well as abandoned cities including Wasit and Al-Nazira. It is well-known for having the biggest palm oases in the world that are listed onhe UNESCO World Heritage List under the name “Al-Ahsa Oasis”, which entered the Guinness Book of Records as the largest independent oasis in the world. The oasis includes more than three million palm trees, covering vast areas of Al-Ahsa lands, and produces more than 100000 tons of dates annually.
