The Blavatnik School of Government is “happy” to have appointed a prominent British-Lebanese lawyer. She has prevailed in historic court cases on behalf of victims of persecution, sexual assault, and genocide. LONDON: Oxford University has appointed renowned British-Lebanese human rights attorney Amal Clooney as a lecturer. According to The Times, she will be a visiting professor of international law practice at the Blavatnik School of Government.
The 47-year-old attended St. Hugh’s College to study law before graduating from Oxford. She expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to serve as a lecturer at her alma mater. Clooney’s appointment was “delighted,” according to the Blavatnik School of Government, which also stated that her experience will improve the school’s research and instruction. Clooney has prevailed in historic court cases at some of the world’s most prestigious tribunals, such as the International Criminal Court, on behalf of victims of sexual assault, genocide, and persecution.
In 2016, she and her spouse co-founded the Clooney Foundation for Justice. In more than 40 countries, it offers legal assistance for situations pertaining to women’s rights and free speech. Clooney was a visiting lecturer at Columbia Law School in New York City and the author of two international law textbooks. “It is an honour to be able to interact with the upcoming generation of world leaders and to support Oxford’s thriving academic community.”
