Aramco Awards $1 Billion in offshore Contracts to Italy’s Saipem

RIYADH: Under its current long-term contract with Aramco, the Italian engineering company Saipem has won two $1 billion offshore contracts in Saudi Arabia.

In the first agreement, three production deck modules, 33 km of subsea rigid pipelines, and 34 km of subsea power cables—all to be installed in the Marjan oil and gas field—will be engineered, procured, constructed, and installed, or EPCI.

For the Zuluf and Safaniyah oil fields, the second contract includes the EPCI of three jackets, five production deck modules, 22 km of rigid subsea pipelines, 5 km of flexible subsea pipelines, and 35 km of subsea power cables.

This is a move to bolster the company’s Middle Eastern footprint, as it is listed on the Milan Stock Exchange. Saipem’s position in the area is further solidified with the awarding of two significant offshore contracts. The statement also disclosed that Saipem will use its local construction vessels for the offshore portions of the two projects. To strengthen the capabilities of the regional industry, fabrication will take place at Saipem Taqa Al-Rushaid Fabricators Co. Ltd., its yard in Saudi Arabia.  These new agreements come after Saipem was given two offshore projects worth a combined $500 million under the terms of the current long-term contract with Aramco in July.
