As PepsiCo Grows, the Regional CEO Thinks Saudis Will Have More Senior Positions

DHAHRAN: At the opening of the SR300 million ($79.97 million) extension of its Dammam complex, food maker PepsiCo promised to give Saudis additional leadership positions. According to an interview with Arab News, Ahmed El-Sheikh described the three primary ways the firm supports the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 economic diversification plan: growing exports, Saudization, and the use of local resources.

The statement was made as Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources Bandar Alkhorayef visited the location and commended the facility’s role in boosting exports, creating jobs, and the general expansion of Saudi Arabia’s food manufacturing industry. The location is a major center in the area, supplying local markets and exporting goods to 20 Middle Eastern nations.

We’re proud to say that 85% of our workforce at the Dammam plant are Saudi nationals, one of the highest rates across any of our facilities in the region,” stated the CEO of PepsiCo MENAP. This is only the beginning, as there are presently 280 employees. We intend to expand much more.

As we progress toward increased automation and digitisation, we’re also creating more opportunities for Saudis to assume technical and leadership roles,” he continued. PepsiCo is now able to use locally grown potatoes for export thanks to recent legislative reforms made possible by cooperation with the Kingdom’s Ministry of Environment and Agriculture.
