Brazilian President receives condolences from Saudi King and Crown Prince regarding flood victims

RIYADH: In the wake of the floods that ravaged the state of Rio Grande do Sul, killing and injuring numerous people and leaving a number missing, King Salman of Saudi Arabia sent a message of sympathy and condolences to President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva of Brazil, the Saudi Press Agency reported on Wednesday.

We have been informed about the devastating floods that occurred in the southern state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, resulting in fatalities, injuries, and unaccounted-for individuals,” the king stated.

“We share Your Excellency’s pain over this tragedy,” he continued, “and we send our warmest condolences and sincere sympathy to you, the families of the deceased, and your friendly people, hoping that the injured will heal quickly and the missing will return safely.

A similar cable was sent by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to the president of Brazil. Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman also sent a similar cable to the Brazilian president.

Since last week, 128 people have gone missing in the southern state of Rio Grande do Sul due to heavy rains and flooding, according to authorities. Over 230,000 people have lost their homes.
